Hear me, an injustice has been dealt. Its kind of annoying though that I just noticed this a couple of weeks ago. And whats worse is that perhaps people have either gotten used to it or they don't know it. I was listening to Eric Clapton and then it hit me. How do these so called "music experts" get away with categorizing Coldplay and other such bands as "Brit Rock"? I mean, I'm no expert myself but isn't Eric Clapton British? Aren't the Sex Pistols and Led Zeppelin British too? I just think that its an injustice to put bands like Coldplay alongside rock greats such as Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton. These guys started it all. They made rock n' roll great, they redefined their respective genres. Without them we wouldn't have Pearl Jam, Nirvana and yes even current pop sensations such as Maroon 5, the Jets and Velvet Revolver. I'm not saying that Coldplay's music sucks, I listen to them myself sometimes. I just saying that perhaps people should rethink how they categorize things. These could very well redefine music as we know it. 30 years from now, when we all have kids, they'll be listening to "Brit Rock" and say "Pa, they sound just like Coldplay! Coldplay is like a god!" They'll be forgeting Rock icons like the Beatles and Eric Clapton. They'll forget that these gods played a major role in polishing and creating the bands they''ll be enjoying. Perhaps I'm just blowing things out of proportion. Perhaps its the fatigue thats talking, I don't know. I just hope that they'll never be forgotten, that they'll live forever. Bessie Smith was considered as the queen of the blues, but not a lot of people remember her or even know her. But perhaps, these rock legends will permeated into the next generation and the next. Who knows? I'm no fortune teller. I'm sure about one thing though my kids will bathe in a rich menagerie of music. We'll be rocking to the tunes of Led Zeppelin singing..."You need coolin', Oh babe I'm not foolin. I'm gonna send you back to schoolin'!" Damn, that is a pretty picture. Me and my kids just sitting back listening to Eric Clapton's sexy blues riffs, damn. And they'll introduce me to their music icons, hehehehe. Bridging the gap, thats what I call it. |
